At Gion Shoja, the temple bell is ringing
its echoing sound: all things are impermanent
even the color of the twin sala flowers
tells that the mighty too will someday fall
Everyone knows it, and yet we forget
the flow of time will never come to a stop
even this moment now is slipping away
the proud and the arrogant cannot last for long
fading like a dream once seen on a spring night
sharing the very fate of dust before the wind
The voice of the bell of Gion Shoja
tells someone, today again, of impermanence
even flowers in full bloom are destined to fall
that is the law of the world, an unchanging truth
that neither strength nor glory lasts forever
only the sound of the bell quietly teaches it
so I will live embracing this present moment
like dust dancing in the wind
However fierce a man may be, in the end he perishes
sharing the very fate of dust before the wind
the proud and the arrogant cannot last for long
fading like a dream once seen on a spring night
even flowers in full bloom are destined to fall
that is the law of the world, an unchanging truth
The bell of Gion Shoja echoes that all things pass
the sala blossoms reveal that the prosperous must decline
the proud do not endure, like a dream on a spring night
the mighty too will fall, no different from dust before the wind
The voice of the bell of Gion Shoja
tells someone, today again, of impermanence
even flowers in full bloom are destined to fall
that is the law of the world, an unchanging truth
that neither strength nor glory lasts forever
only the sound of the bell quietly teaches it
so I will live embracing this present moment
like dust dancing in the wind
