mid-Heian period · 999?–1082?Daini no Sanmi

A mid-Heian woman poet, daughter of Murasaki Shikibu and Fujiwara no Nobutaka. Like her mother she served Empress Shōshi, and she is linked romantically with several sons of Michinaga. She later became wet-nurse to the future Emperor Go-Reizei and, after his accession, was raised to the third court rank; her title comes from her husband's post as Senior Assistant Governor-General of Dazaifu. About thirty-five of her poems survive in imperial anthologies. Her Hyakunin Isshu poem turns a lover's accusation of fickleness back on him, with the rustling bamboo grass of Mount Arima as witness.
