藤原伊尹(ふじわらのこれただ)

A mid-Heian statesman, eldest son of Fujiwara no Morosuke and uncle of Michinaga. He became regent in 970 and Chancellor of the Realm, but died in 972 at forty-nine; Kentoku-kō is his posthumous title. He supervised the scholars of the Pear Chamber who compiled the Gosenshū, and his personal collection presents his poems as the love story of a fictional man named Toyokage. He was the father of the poet Fujiwara no Yoshitaka. His Hyakunin Isshu poem, from the Shūishū, laments dying unpitied by the one he loves.

あはれとも いふべき人は 思ほえで
身のいたづらに なりぬべきかな

I cannot think of anyone who would even say 'poor thing' for me — and so, I suppose, I will die in vain.
