平兼盛(たいらのかねもり)

A mid-Heian poet, a great-great-grandson of Emperor Kōkō who was given the surname Taira. He served as governor of several provinces and is counted among the Thirty-Six Immortals, with some ninety poems in imperial anthologies, and was a leading composer of screen poems. At the palace poetry contest of 960 his poem on hidden love was matched against Mibu no Tadami's; the judge could not decide until Emperor Murakami was heard murmuring Kanemori's verse, which was then declared the winner.
