A mid-Heian woman poet, foster daughter of the warrior Minamoto no Yorimitsu. She married Ōe no Kinyori, governor of Sagami, from which she took her name, accompanied him to his province and later separated from him. She served two imperial princesses and was a prominent figure at poetry contests of the mid-eleventh century, exchanging poems with Fujiwara no Sadayori among others. One of the Late Classical Thirty-Six Immortals, she has about 110 poems in imperial anthologies. Her Hyakunin Isshu poem, on sleeves rotted by tears and a name ruined by love, was composed for a palace contest in 1051.
