The Story

歌のものがたり

Ryōzen was a monk of Mount Hiei who spent his last years in seclusion at Ōhara. Driven out of his hut by loneliness, he found no escape — the same autumn dusk lay over everything. Yet the poem holds no despair; there is a strange calm in discovering that loneliness is universal. Our song walks the same path in a modern town: leaving a room where you have stared at the walls too long, wandering through streets at sunset, hiding from the dusk only to be found by it — until the final chorus turns the discovery over: the same dusk is falling on everyone, so you were never the only one.
